DIY: Cookie Plate for Santa

Hello all! Here’s a quick DIY holiday project with the kiddos, family and/or friends…

The other night we made these cookie plates for santa. I originally got inspiration from a $20 plate at Crate & Barrel, which I wasn’t going to pay, but loved loved the idea. I decided to make these ourselves with the kiddos, which was reasonable and a lot of fun.

What you will need:

  • Paint, we used Martha Stewart (info below)
  • Plate to paint on (info below)
  • Paint brushes
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Paper bags or newspapers to cover your work space & tape if you’d like to tape the paper down

I headed to Michael’s and bought these Martha Stewart paints for multi-surface and glass mediums. The are non-toxic but permanent and can be oven baked or cured for 21 days.

In addition to the paints, I bought regular paint brushes that work with this kind of paint and cheap plates that are oven safe. These are the plates I picked up at walmart.

To get started, lay paper bags or newspaper down on your work area. The paint is permanent and this will be easy to clean up.
Next take some rubbing alcohol and clean the plate with it. This will allow the paint to adhere better and take off any residue.

Now it’s time to paint! Paint anything you like and the key is to HAVE FUN!!
