“You are passionate and determined. You strive to live an independent, creative life. You stand up for what you believe and don’t take no for an answer. You have your own story and will make your own way in the world.“, these words are the words that describe Jo March (played by Saoirse Ronan), one of the four March sisters in the Little Women book and film. I truly believe these are the same words that describe myself and what I would hope for my daughter and son to live by. I wish that they will go places, and there’s nothing that can stop either of them from taking on the world to follow their dreams and not be afraid to blaze new trails, express how they feel and remember to live in the moment.
Little Women Movie
Based on the classic Little Women novel and the writings of Louisa May Alcott, I adored the newest Little Women film which was heartfelt, beautifully acted (I love Emma Watson), and thoughtfully directed (director Greta Gerwig). This classic film is a mix of its historic roots running on present-day energy, about family, dreams, love, success, and adventure in the years of the Civil War. Portraying Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth March, the film stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, with Timothée Chalamet as their neighbor Laurie, Laura Dern as Marmee, and Meryl Streep as Aunt March.
The movie will make you feel so extremely good after watching it. I promise you that!! Little Women is an absolutely lovely film which is out now on Digital. Every year March is designated as Women’s History Month and what perfect timing to honor women’s contributions in American history. I hope you can too get a chance to watch the four sisters as they encounter remarkable transitions from adolescence to adulthood, each determined to live life on her own terms.
DIY Printed Quotes
Whether you are a fan of the classic novel or movie or love to be inspired, I chose a few Little Women quotes that hit home. I decided to design a few printables with the hopes to inspire. I truly believe that we all have our own story. Each one of us should dare to be different and to shine our brightest. I believe we accomplish the most when we are true to ourselves! Please use these quotes in creative ways to be reminded or remind a friend or family member that they too are incredible, amazing, and one of a kind!
These quotes can be downloaded/printed and can be used within a frame, as stationery, or even as art. Here are a few examples of what Nellie, my daughter, and I have created.
Framed Wall Quotes
I printed three designed quotes, “I intend to make my own way in the world” (Jo March), “Own your story”, and “I am happy as I am” (Jo March). I am obsessed with the brushed font look though I realized I wanted to add more color and needed to do something. I found some washi tape and added it as a border to each individual framed quote. The washi tape was a perfect solution and is easy to use; it gave each frame a more feminine and floral feel which paired nicely with the colorful aesthetics in Nellie’s room decor. My favorite quote of all three is the “Own your story”, it’s a simple design, a strong quote, and beautifully laid out.
Stationery
I have designed two quotes for the stationery items, both quotes can easily be made into gifts or lovely cards to give or send to any special person in your life. Nellie loved the quote “I am happy as I am” (Jo March) and I loved “We will be interesting forever” (Jo March). Nellie plans to send her card, “I am happy as I am”, to her girlfriend Arabelle from school because being friends with Arabelle makes Nellie happy and she wants Arabelle to know that she is nice, friendly, and kind! I plan to send my card “We will be interesting forever”, to one of my good friends, Emily. I am grateful for Emily, she listens to all of the craziness in my life. I enjoy how much we laugh and our quirky personalities, and I love how we can talk for hours. I would like Emily to know how much she means to me and how grateful I am to have our friendship!
To create our cards, we used washi tape and made beautiful designs out of our printed quotes. You may have noticed we love washi tape though you could use color pencils, crayons, paint, add stickers, glue and/or glitter.
Other Ways to Use the Designs
Nellie and I thought of a few other ideas: use colored pencils or paint with watercolor paint; print the designs on colored or patterned paper; print the designs on transfer paper which would look really cool on a t-shirt or any item really! Nellie really enjoyed coloring them and added her own flair!
